Happy New Year Greetings & Highlights of 2014

Since I didn't send Christmas cards out this year, I wanted to send Happy New Year greetings with a recap on the past year.  I am hearing some say that the tradition of sending out Christmas cards will become a thing of the past as more and more folks share their greetings on social media.   I still love opening Christmas cards from family and friends and hope that folks won't give up on me reciprocating, hopefully next Christmas.

David Stovall and I got married on February 22nd at King & Prince Resort on Saint Simon's Island, one of our favorite places.  Our extended family from North Georgia attended, including my 92-year-old grandmother 'Granny' and David's mother, Allene even came. Having our family and close friends there made it so special. David's long-time Rotarian friend (also a Superior Court judge in Augusta GA), Past Rotary International Director David Roper officiated and performed the nuptials.  The five flower girls (my nieces) looked like fairies.  Nephew Riley Westbrook did a beautiful job singing 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow.'

We honeymooned in Sydney, Australia and attended Rotary International Convention there. We rented a car and drove for days, traveling down the beautiful coast.  Driving around Hunter Valley's wine country was especially scenic.  We loved seeing kangaroos in fields and hopping over fences.  This photo was taken in front of the iconic Sydney bridge.

David's daughter, Claire graduated from Duke University and has been working at Coleman Research in Raleigh NC as a research analyst for about a year now.  We're very proud of her!

We spent six months restoring this Cessna 150, a two-seater airplane we named 'Janey' since we bought her in January.  Her longest voyage to date was the last weekend of October when we flew her to Miami and back.  We flew down to Peach State Aerodrome on July 4th, a grass strip with a great restaurant.

Duke, our black lab, just turned nine years old.   David decided he was ready for a puppy, having lost Claire's 18-year old dog, Jazz, earlier in the year.  This lively Havanese puppy, christened Maxx, has brought lots of love and laughter into our home this Christmas season. Maxx hardly ever leaves David's side.

I'll leave with you with this shot of The Norton Agency's home office.  This side of the building doesn't face Historic Green Street.  We have all enjoyed this lovely holiday decoration this season, as it's the entrance we use to come and go.
